Characteristics and Hazards Analysis of Vortex Shedding at the Inverted Siphon Outlet

This paper studies Karman vortex shedding and water-level fluctuation in the inverted siphon structure of Middle Route South-to-North Water Diversion Project (MR-SNWDP) China. Field investigations numerical simulations for outlet were performed to explore characteristics hazards vortex. Numerical results compared with measured data verify effectiveness reliability model. Based on model, it is found that periodic fluctuations caused by street will not only excite surges beat gate but also induce periodical force pier. Those damage building affect delivery capacity long-term operation. this, countermeasures altering different pier tail shapes are proposed control shedding, effect noticeable. The study presents a hydraulic process provides theoretical reference water safety siphons similar structures MR-SNWDP.
